Library Event Metamodule
The Library Event application is available to Professional and Enterprise price plan customers only. This article focuses on the Meta module functions when the user is using the Event applications. Four Tabs are available from Event View and discussed:
- Taglist
- Info
- CLiplist
- Search Events
Taglist
Taglist contains logged Events from a happening. A happening could be a soccer game, a biathlon event, a talk show, a concert, debate, or similar. Taglist contains logged events that are intended to be used at a later stage. Typical content in a Taglist from a soccer game is a goal, corner, penalty, free kick, and other interesting incidents. Mediabank is delivered with several pre-defined events and can easily be further extended by the user during the application setup.
Tag lists are linked to specific assets and contain only metadata from that particular happening.
Note!
The content in the Taglist is often linked to rights management when media clips are distributed around the globe to paying recipients.
Official Taglist
The below image contains the official Taglist for the particular asset (Happening). The official Taglist is normally created during the soccer game and then closed for further editing when the match is finished.
- Clicking on the Official tab will reveal if any other editable Taglists are loaded. Clicking the "New/Open" tab allows the user to create a new Taglist or select other available Taglists.
Note!
If a new Taglist is needed we recommend that the new Taglist is created from Tags Edit or Tags Live (workspace 6 or 7) since it is only possible to add new events from that workspace. - If the asset is being tagged by other colleagues, it is possible to click the reload button to update the Taglist with the latest events.
- Click to select multiple Events and make a collection. Click the (9) "Add to cliplist" button to copy these events to a selected cliplist for further editing. It is also possible to send the selected events to an available Mbox for publishing or similar.
- Time, Type, and Title simply provide information about when the event happened (This Taglist shows Events from the second half of the soccer match since the events in this Taglist start at 45 minutes). "Type" shows the type of event illustrated by an icon. "Title" is simply the events description.
- Pressing the filter button enables the user to filter the events of less interest.
- NEW - By clicking the "triangular" button, the user can now view detailed information about the specific Event, previously only available from Tags.
- Use pre-roll, post-roll, and duration.
When an incident like a goal, is logged, it gets a timestamp. But the timestamp itself has limited value when an operator creates a clip for distribution or publishing. The viewers wish to see the actions that led to the goal, and the reactions after the goal, and maybe a slow-motion as well. The operator can manipulate the pre-roll (the time frame before the occurrence) and the post-roll (the time after the occurrence) before creating a clip. The "Use" button forces every clip to use the same values when creating clips. If not selected, the system will look into each event and use those values if they exist. The example from the previous point (6) shows that the selected event has a pre-roll of 10 seconds and a post-roll of 50 seconds. These values will be used if the "Use" button is not selected. When the pre/post-roll entries are missing, the system will use a default value, usually 10+25=35 seconds duration of the clip. - "View clip" makes the media player position the clip at the "Pre-roll" timecode and starts playing until the end of the duration is reached.
"Load Clip" loads the clip in the media player and activates the timeline, visually marking the clips properties (start-stop). - See above paragraph #3
- Send the selected clips directly to an Mbox. From the Mbox, the user can choose to stitch the selected clips into one. Prior to the stitching, the user can re-order the clips.
Create your own Taglist (New/Open +)
Info
The content in the Info Tab is used to provide additional information about the actual Event (The asset loaded in the mediaplayer). The content is configurable and can be designed to retrieve additional information from 3'rd party services. In the example below, the info Tab is configured to provide Statistics and player lineup from the actual soccer event.
Cliplist
A cliplist is a logfile containing entries of incidents from Tags, Event
Select the events to distribute/publish. Once selected, you may add them to an existing clip list or to a destination M-box for immediate distribution or publishing.
There are two types of Events that Mediabank can use.
- Events that log incidents. Incidents contain an incident time and a pre-roll value. Typically a goal/crash/fall/etc. Anything that needs to display what caused the incidents. (You need a pre-roll).
- Events that log "happenings". Happenings contain start time and duration. It has a pre-roll value set to zero. Typically an interview/athlete warm-up/ceremony/etc. (You just need a start value and duration)
Mediabank will recognize the Mediabank events and produce clips without modifications. Following rules apply:
- If the "Use Pre/post Roll" box is checked, then all selected events will be cut to the default duration.
- "Happenings" without a pre-roll value will get the default pre-roll value deducted from its start time and duration will be as default.
- If the "Use Pre/post Roll" box" is NOT checked
- Incidents with valid pre-roll values will be handled without modifications.
- Happenings with valid time/duration will be handled without modifications.
- Any Event without a valid log will initiate Mediabank to use the present default pre/post-roll values even if the checkbox is not checked.
Difference between the Tabs "Tag list" and "Search Events"
You can create a cliplist from both but:
- Taglist is preferred when your focus is on a specific event. The log provides event-specific Tags only
- Search Events has a more general approach. The whole Mediabank Log of Tags/Events are available.
How to Create clips
You need a container/folder to store your clips. The first step is to create a cliplist and make it active.
(1) Select the Cliplist Tab and Click (2) "+New/Open" to prepare a new list. (3) Name the new list and fill in a short description. Make the list private, selected groups or public. Then press (4) to "Create list".
You have created a list.
All clip lists available in Mediabank can be found below the "Create list" button. Use the search function to locate relevant lists from other users or your own. Existing clip lists (5) from other users must be duplicated (7) before you can edit (6) the copy. Load it in the Tab (8) to make the cliplist easily accessible.
To remove unwanted clip lists from the Tab, just press the X to the right of the cliplist name. You can not delete or modify other user's clip lists. To delete your own, locate it in the list view and press the X to the right of the Owner column.
Go to the Event search Tab
In the below example, you have selected 3 Events for the Cliplist. Mediabank will calculate the total duration for your selected Events.
Selecting an Event will activate Mediabank to locate the asset and load it into the player and align the Event, ready to be played.
Pressing view Clip will simply force the player to play that event only.
"Load clip" button will initiate the timeline to align the event and view its time properties.
"Add to cliplist" button will retrieve the clip lists you decided to keep in your Cliplist Tab folder. It will enable you to work on multiple clip lists simultaneously.
Click on "Anders test" or Hockey assists" to add your events to the cliplist.
The same procedure applies from the Tag list, except for the clip duration visibility.
The Clip list Tab
Selecting the Cliplist Tab will reveal your different cliplist(s) and their contents. You have the option to delete unwanted clips by pressing the X to the right, but also re-arrange the clips order.
When ready to distribute/publish the event clips, you simply follow the instructions.
A number to the right of the selected M-Box will appear. The number reflects the number of event clips the M-Box holds. You can choose to add additional clips from other clip lists before you decide to publish them.
When ready for publishing, just click once on the M-box. The M-Box will open and reveal its content. When adding event clips from the cliplist, the cliplist name (1) will be inserted as a prefix. You may change it.
(2) Stitch. You can choose to send the event clips as separate media files, or stitch them into one larger media file.
(3) You may choose additional notification lists, but each destination M-Box has its own predefined receivers that are notified automatically.
You still have the final opportunity to delete one or more of the event clips. Press the X to the right to remove it from the M-Box.
(4) If you need to add additional clips later, just press the "Close" button and the M-Box will close with its content intact, waiting for additional clips.
(5) Regret the whole distribution/publishing? Click "Empty M-Box" and the content is cleared.
(6) Finally, pressing "execute" will deliver the content to its destination without any need for additional forms/passwords, etc.
Your media clips are on its way.
Search Events
Event Search will search all events available to you. The availability may be limited by your rights within your Company/Group/User Id. It is visually almost identical to "asset search" available from workspace 1-3, with a few exceptions.
- Event search will not search for assets (media files). It will only search for events stored in the Elastic search engine database.
- It will search for any events from all the official Tags lists and Private lists that are made available to you.
- The "Event Search filters" are hierarchical like the asset search in W1 and W2. The second filter uses the result from the previous filter.
Note!
From December 2018, events can also be searched for and listed from Library workspace 1 & 2. The new function was released as a "combined search". One search phrase returns results from both assets and events.
You do not need to load an asset into the media player. Just go to Workspace 4 or 5 and locate the "Search Events" Tab in the meta-module. In the below example, W5 (Events wide) is selected.
The X indicates the primary switch to reset/clear all present searches. When the X is visible, it indicates that a free text or saved searches are active.
The "Open filter search dialog" button is now similar to the asset search from W1
Another new function is the "Organize" button, replacing the previous "+New/Reset" function. Read more about it later in this article.
Free text search for Events (manual search)
Type your search criteria in the search window and press enter or the search button (magnifying glass).
When entering the Event search, your search result is empty. Clicking the magnifying glass without entering a search phrase will return the total amounts of events stored in your database.
Note!
Using the free text search only (without filters) will most likely return a result similar to this: "Results: 110983. Result limit 50". The search result can be adjusted to view 50-200 events. For search results above 200, use more specific search criteria or combine it with the use of search filters.
You can use the wild card symbol * to simplify your search. Searching for Cross-country skiing can be simplified by typing: cross* and will return all Cross-country and any other combination starting with cross.....
A search with the filter like Goal is likely to return to many athletes. Looking for a specific nation, you may combine that athlete in the manual search window like this: goal Tom Skeid. Add even more additional phrases to narrow your search result.
To enhance your search, use it with the powerful "Event Search Filter" described later in the article.
Note!
Be aware that searching in the free text for a simple phrase like "goal" will most likely return a search result that exceeds the number of results when using the filter search dialog.
The free text search is looking in all fields from events, while event type goal only returns results when event_type=“goal”
How to Clear/reset your searches.
To clear your manual search or saved searches, simply press the X in the search frame.
Using the Event Search filter
Related to the below image the following applies:
If you frequently search for the same topics we recommend to define search filters and save them. Your saved filter searches will be added to the Search event tabs. You can also have saved searches from other users in the Tab. To Remove a search from the Tab, you make the search active by clicking it and then click the X to hide it. You can also use the organize button to manage your saved searches.
Manual search Is described above, but remember that it is also great to use in combination with filters. Note that the free text search will also be saved together with your filters.
Selecting ALL will produce a search result when all filter criteria are met (default). It will also set the "Event Search filters" to hierarchical mode. The second filter uses the result from the previous filter.
Selecting ANY will result in a wider search result and you will get a combined search result for each of the filters that are met.
Before saving the search, the user must decide the visibility of the filters to other users. There are three options:
- Make private: Available and visible only to t6he user only.
- Make visible for groups: Select from available user groups in the drop-down menu. The actual filter is read/use only for other users. They cannot delete the filter.
- Public: Available as "read & use" only for all users in the account. They cannot delete your filter.
When finished, press "save" and name the search.
Note!
One of the labels contains "List type". To avoid duplicates when searching for Events, it should be considered selecting "Official". Mediabank will, by default search in all lists and by selecting "Official" Mediabank filter out other users events and copies of the official log.
Creating and distributing Clips
Select the events to distribute/publish. Once selected, it is possible adding them to an existing clip list or to a destination M-box for immediate distribution or publishing.
There are two types of Events that Mediabank uses.
- Events that log incidents. Incidents contain an incident time and a pre-roll value. Typically a goal/crash/fall/etc. Anything that needs to display what caused the incidents. (a pre-roll is needed).
- Events that log "happenings". Happenings contain start time and duration. It has a pre-roll value set to zero. Typically an interview/athlete warm-up/ceremony/etc. (a start value and duration is needed)
When selecting Add to "clip for.....", the clip will be stored in the clip list tab for further processing/editing. Selecting Add to Mbox will publish the clips depending on the M-box settings.
Difference between the Tabs "Tag list" and "Search Events"
It is possible to create a clip list from both but:
- Taglist is preferred when the focus is on a specific event. The log provides event-specific Tags only.
- Search Events has a more general approach. The whole Mediabank Log of Tags/Events is available.
