Thumb view vs. List view (Workspace 1 & 2)
In the image below, the default (thumb) view in the Library application is presented. Many users prefer to see the assets listed with a larger poster window compared to the list view. However, with thousands of assets in the library, the user might find it cumbersome to scroll through them all to locate his/her asset(s), especially if the search involves several assets.
The advantage a list view can provide is sorting assets by date, title, or any other metadata of your choice.
The image is illustrating the difference between the Thumb view (upper image) and the list view.
Thumb and List view are quite basic tools to help the user swiftly skim through the media content. Both these workspaces need additional tools to refine the results at the user's preference.
In the below image, an arrow is shown that points (upper left corner) to advanced AM (Asset Management) tools.
These tools are described in separate articles.
- Calendar view
- Collections
- Saved searches, projects, and groups
- Advanced search
- Search
Default configuration when starting Library
When the user starts the Library application, it loads the landing page (default page). Note that many of these parameters are configurable by the user from the Dashboard.
The default Library startup configuration is listed below:
- Thumb view, listing the latest incoming assets.
- Asset mode, listing assets only. (Events not listed)
- Search tools inactive (configurable)
The single asset in Thumb view (W1)
Within the thumb view workspace, the user can select a single asset and perform numerous tasks; send it to the archive, download it for later viewing or editing, send it to a destination, temporarily share the final version with other people outside the project, update its metadata, view it in full-screen mode, group it with other assets or use the scrubbing posters to scroll through the asset briefly.
Mediabank can also provide valuable information about a specific asset to a user by adding informational icons.
Status messages - (configurable) Provides information about the asset's temporary status. Messages could be informational or warnings. Typical messages could be:
"FileStatus:uploading:info:File status is uploading",
"FileStatus:transcoding:info:Transcoding",
"FileStatus:proxygen:info:Generating proxy",
"assethasoriginal:0:warning:Original is missing",
These messages can be edited by an admin user from the Main Menu and Admin - Account setting. Select Company for messages on a company level or Library for settings on the application level. The config key is AssetWarnings.
Lock icon - when visible, the asset is locked for deletion.
Star rating - It is possible to rate an asset from 1-5
Selected asset - To select an asset, click once on the thumb. It is possible to select additional assets.
Asset title - The asset title field
Short info - (configurable) Additional information about the asset. It could also display the asset subtitle.
Mirrored/Linked assets - (M) The asset is mirrored from another source. The source (usually a rights holder) can revoke the access as well as providing access. Hover over the "M" to see the source.
Action menu - Takes you to the M-boxes or Quick link features that enable you to send or share your asset to another destination.
Scrubbing posters - When an asset is selected (orange line above the title), position the cursor over the asset in thumb view and hover to the left or right; you can view the asset content within seconds. Mediabank automatically produces scrubbing posters from the assets when they are uploaded/retrieved.
Grouped assets - The icon notify the user that this particular asset is grouped with one or more additional assets. By clicking on the icon, Mediabank will present the asset in the Thumb or list view and the other grouped assets. All other assets will be excluded from the view. The title module will also list the grouped assets in its title window when loading the asset into the media player.
Workspace 3 - Takes you to the asset property view and loads it into the media player. You will find all the information available, including the asset id and its metadata. If you have the rights, you can even modify the metadata in client-defined fields. If the thumb reflects an Event, the player will start in W4 or W5 and load the asset linked to the Event and align the media player with the time codes specified in the event.
Right-click in asset frame - Takes you to the Task menu to perform various actions on that asset.
